313 times less salary: top facts about the female NBA

The average attendance of matches is also significantly different. If for men it is about 18 thousand spectators, then for girls it is about seven. These are the indicators of last season. NBA players get to the cities where matches are held by charter airplanes, but VNBA representatives fly on regular flights.
And that's not all. Basketball players have long complained about disparate salaries in the women's and men's leagues. For example, the star of the Golden State club Stephen Curry receives almost $ 37.5 million per season. And the country's best basketball player, the leader of the Seattle Storm club, Jewel Loyd, is only 119.5 thousand. This is 313 times less than Curry’s salary.
This difference is explained by the fact that the average number of televiews of NBA matches over the past season is 1.63 million, but the interest in women's games is much less - about 231 thousand. That is why the average salary for men for the season is 6.4 million, and for women - 79 thousand.
TV channels so far pay little attention to the women's league, giving it only 2% of the airtime. Nevertheless, the popularity of women's basketball is growing every year in the country. In 1976, a women's team tournament appeared in the Olympics program, and since then the US team has never been left without medals. And at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Americans will again be the main favorites.

Only three Ukrainians made their way to VNBA, but their career in the league was short. In 2000, Olga Firsova played nine matches for Liberty, Valeria Berezhinskaya - two for San Antonio in 2008, and Inga Orekhova six times out on parquet for Atlanta and Connecticut in 2014-2015.
Perhaps the success will be achieved by 27-year-old captain of the national team of Ukraine Alina Yagupova, who has signed a contract with three-time champion of the Los Angeles Sparks league. Experts say that Alina has all the data to gain a foothold in the VNBA. And we will also hope so.

Basketball Rules Commentary Foul Violation Basic Rules

Here are the basic rules of basketball.

What is basketball

Basketball is a game in which two teams of basically five players compete for the ball and put the ball in the goal of the opponent team to compete for the score.
Unlike wide fields such as baseball and soccer, the game proceeds at a very fast speed because it is played in a relatively narrow court with a length of 28 m and a width of 15 m (minibusses are 22 to 28 m and a width of 12 to 15 m).

* In the case of minibusses (elementary school students), a total of 10 people including substitutes must participate in the game.

How To Handle Basketball

The ball is handled by hand. Do not walk more than 3 steps with the ball (traveling).
Hit the ball on the court, called dribbling, to reach the opponent's goal. You cannot stop dribbling and re-dribble the ball you once held (double dribbling).

About Scoring

Goals from outside the 3-point line are 3 points. One goal from the free throw line. Other points are 2 points.

Match Time

One quarter (also called a period) is a 10-minute, four-time 40-minute match.
For junior high school students, 1 quarter 8 minutes 4 times. Minibusses (elementary school students) take 1 quarter 5 minutes 4 times.
Each quarter has a two-minute interval, with a 10-minute half-time between two and three quarters.

After 4 quarters, if both teams have the same score, an extra 5 minutes (3 minutes for junior high school/minibus) will be played.
If the final match is not reached in the extra time, the extra time will be repeated after a 2-minute interval. Overtime repeats this until it is settled.

Game Start And End

The game will not start unless both teams have five players. The game starts from the jump ball in the center circle.
The coats are switched in the first half and the second half.

The main violations are the time rules such as the 24-second rule and the 8-second rule, and the rules for handling balls such as double dribbling and traveling.

Come with us and answer all your questions about one of the most popular sports in the world.

What is basketball?

One of the most popular sports in the world, basketball is a collective game, created in the late 19th century.  Basketball is the adaptation of the sport's English name, basketball. Basket means basket, while ball is ball. Thus, basketball would be the same as “ball in the basket”.

Want to know more and understand the origin of basketball? Then check out the story of how the sport was created!

Who created basketball?

The inventor of basketball was Canadian James Naismith. He was a physical education professor at Springfield College, an international college of the Christian Youth Association (ACM). In 1891, James Naismith was tasked by the then director of Springfield College, Luther Halsey Gullick, to create a sport that could be practiced indoors during the Massachusetts winter in the United States.

During this period, due to the cold, ACM students were unable to play football or baseball. James Naismith then used two baskets of peach and positioned them at the ends of the court, 3.05 meters from the ground.

The aim of the sport created was simply that the teams hit the ball inside the baskets. Naismith also drew up 13 rules so that basketball could be played by students at the Christian Youth Association.

Interestingly, 4 years later, also at ACM, the history of volleyball started .

It was also in Massachusetts, but in the city of Springfield, that the company Chicope Falls produced the first basketball in 1894, the same year that the sport arrived in Brazil.

How did basketball get to Brazil?

The person responsible for bringing basketball to Brazil was the American Augusto Shaw. He arrived in the country in 1894, to teach arts at Mackenzie, in São Paulo, and introduced the sport to students.

Augusto Shaw brought a basketball to Brazil. Initially, the new sport was well accepted by women, while facing competition with football among men. But in 1896, he managed to form the first team at Mackenzie.

In the following century, basketball was disseminated in Brazil by the Associação Cristã de Moços (ACM), from Rio de Janeiro. In 1912, the first basketball tournaments were held in Rio. Three years later, ACM promoted the first sport competition in South America, with the participation of six teams.

In 1922, the Brazilian basketball team was called for the first time. On December 25, 1933, in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Basketball Federation was founded. The current name, Confederação Brasileira de Basketball (CBB), was adopted from December 26, 1941.

In 1948, Brazil won its first medal in basketball at the Olympics .
